Italy’s best-kept secret travel destination, Le Marche Region
Located between the Central Apennines and the Adriatic Coast, Le Marche is the new gateway to central Italy. Boasting a landscape with mountains and deep valleys, hills, olive groves, and terraced vineyards, the Region offers a true taste of unspoilt rural settings married with historic medieval towns, rich in culture and a magnificent Adriatic coastline.
Our Love Affair with Le Marche
As a family, we have all visited, lived, and studied in Le Marche for over 50 years, combined. It is where we have family, friends and lasting relationships with small businesses, restaurateurs, and artisans. Our passion and intimate knowledge of Le Marche should be shared and we would love to share all that is great about this beautiful Region – a place we call home when in Italy.
Rich with History
Unsaturated by crowds, Le Marche region and its Medieval towns remain true to their history and cultural wealth. Urbino, a captivating hill-town and a monument of the Italian Renaissance is famous for expressive artists such as Raphael and Piero della Francesca – an art lover’s paradise. Macerata is an important cultural hub featuring a famous classical open-air arena. Ascoli Piceno is home to the highest concentration of Romanesque churches and two of the most beautiful city squares in Italy. The seaside city of Pesaro, comes alive in the warmer months as hub of cultural activities such as the international renowned Rossini Opera Festival. San Marino, a day trip visiting one of the world’s smallest and oldest republics, a fascinating stand-alone country, located just on the regional border of Le Marche. These are just some of the multitude of hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Authentic Food and Wine
Let’s not forget food and wine. Le Marche is deeply rooted in tradition, where the most authentic food is served at the home rather than in restaurants. Here, home cooking means cooking just like Nonna with produce sourced from small family-owned land. Standout local produce such as extra virgin olive oil from Cartoceto, prosciutto from Carpegna, artisan cheeses such as Casciotta di Urbino and locally sourced seafood from coastal towns along the Adriatic.
The food, of course, is accompanied by some of the best white wines produced in all of Italy. Le Marche’s pride is Verdicchio from Jesi made from the local grape of the same name. Other notable wines are Bianchello del Metauro and Rosso Conero as well as Sangiovese and Montepulciano also made famous in neighbouring regions.
