Rich with History

Puglia and its towns remain true to their heritage and character. Alberobello is famous the world over for its UNESCO-listed trulli, the whitewashed conical stone houses found only in this region, with the Rione Monti district home to over a thousand of them. 

Castel del Monte stands as one of the region’s most distinctive UNESCO-listed landmarks, an octagonal fortress built by Emperor Frederick II and a striking example of the architectural identity that sets Puglia apart. Polignano a Mare sits dramatically perched above the Adriatic, its clifftop streets and clear waters drawing visitors year-round. At the same time, Otranto offers a relaxed coastal atmosphere at the edge of Salento. 

Termoli, a traditional fishing village further up the coast, adds rich cultural heritage and coastal charm around its old borgo and seafront castle. Matera, just across the regional border, makes for an unforgettable finale, renowned for its ancient Sassi cave dwellings and extraordinary history. Puglia has numerous towns you can lose yourself in, but these are just a glimpse of the multitude of hidden gems waiting for you to discover.

Authentic Food and Wine

Let’s not forget food and wine. Puglia is deeply rooted in tradition, where meals are shared the Italian way: long lunches, seasonal produce and excellent regional wine enjoyed together. 

Puglia’s pride is Primitivo, a full-bodied red grown throughout the region, alongside Negroamaro and other reds that reflect the warmth of the Southern Italian terroir. The region’s food traditions run just as deep, with orecchiette pasta shaped by hand, fresh burrata from Andria and excellent extra virgin olive oil produced from some of the oldest olive groves in Italy.
